Biography

Ben Ma is an Emergency Physician and Medical Director at the University of Washington Medical Center - Northwest. He is dedicated to improving patient flow and the quality of care in emergency department settings, which are increasingly faced with complex challenges and rising demands. Dr. Ma earned his MD from Baylor College of Medicine, where he served as class president. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency, associated with Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he held the position of chief resident. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in Emergency Department Administration at Mass General Brigham and earned a Master in Health Care Management degree from Harvard University. Before joining the University of Washington, Dr. Ma was on the faculty at UT Health Houston, where he held various leadership roles, including associate medical director of emergency services at Memorial Hermann Hospital and medical director of population health at Harris Health – LBJ Hospital. He was also a founding co-director of the UT Health ED Administration Operations Fellowship. His academic interests focus on addressing challenges related to hospital boarding, emergency department crowding, and enhancing the quality and safety of patient care, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations.
