Biography

Ben Ohavi is a lecturer in law at Yale Law School and a research fellow at the Brodie Center for Jewish Israeli Law. His work primarily explores the intersections of political philosophy, legal philosophy, private law theory, and Jewish law philosophy. Ohavi earned his Ph.D. in law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2025, and holds an LL.M. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law (2019) and an LL.B. in law philosophy from the Hebrew University (2017). His doctoral dissertation investigated the conceptions of private ownership through the lens of historical and contemporary property law theories in Talmudic law. In addition to his academic duties, Ohavi focuses on the theoretical relationships among various branches of private law and their connections with philosophical, legal, and religious traditions within Jewish legal thought.
