Biography

Ben Reis is a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center and a member of the Predictive Medicine Group at Harvard Medical School and the Boston Children's Hospital Computational Health Informatics Program. His research focuses on understanding fundamental patterns of human disease and developing novel approaches to predicting disease. He has conducted large-scale population studies on COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness and safety, and has developed innovative methods for tracking and understanding pandemics through digital information sources. Reis has created systems that allow doctors to predict dangerous clinical conditions years in advance, including suicide and domestic abuse, and has developed predictive pharmacology systems capable of identifying life-threatening adverse drug side effects before they occur. He has advised governments on establishing national biodefense systems, and has worked with the Hong Kong government to build health infrastructure in response to pandemics. His contributions have been recognized by the White House for his work on harnessing social networks to promote health, and he has been named a top health innovator by the State Department, USAID, and NASA.
