Biography

Benay Gürsoy Toykoç is an Associate Professor in Architecture at the Stuckeman School, Penn State University. Her research and teaching focus on computational making, digital fabrication, craft theory, shape studies, basic design education, and cognitive studies of the design process. She has published and presented her research internationally and has received awards at various international conferences. Toykoç has taught first-year design studios, geometry, and design computing courses at Istanbul Bilgi University and has introduced innovative courses, such as one about 'hacking materials production methods.' She completed her doctoral studies in the Architectural Design Computing Program at Istanbul Technical University, where her Ph.D. thesis centered on the integration of material manipulation in the computational design process; it was awarded the Ph.D. Dissertation Award from Istanbul Technical University. She has continuously engaged in interdisciplinary research grants at Pennsylvania State University and has participated in numerous workshops and exhibitions showcasing her work in architecture and design.
