Benedek Kruchió is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics at Yale University. He was born in Hungary and raised in Austria. Kruchió studied Classics at the University of Vienna, received his Master’s degree from Humboldt University of Berlin, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining Yale, he was a Research Fellow at St John's College, Cambridge, and taught at King's College London and in Heidelberg. His research focuses on Greek literature from the imperial period to late antiquity, particularly between the sixth centuries C.E. His current book project, 'Aethiopica Heliodorus,' investigates multiperspectival narration in ancient reading communities, aiming to connect formal analysis with discursive approaches to literature. Kruchió explores how various reading communities, including Platonist philosophers and rhetorically educated elites, engaged with challenging texts through 'interpretive roleplay.' He is also working on an edited volume titled 'Imperial Allegory: Reading Cultural Medial Divides' and a journal cluster on 'Interface Interpretation.' His future research will partially shift towards 'prosaic' literature, focusing on commissioned work related to imperial Greek poetry and allegory. Kruchió has published several articles on ancient Greek novels and Greek narrative forms, contributing significantly to the field of Classics.
