Biography

Benet Salway is a Senior Lecturer in Ancient History at University College London (UCL), focusing on the Roman world from the late Republic to late antiquity. His research interests encompass Roman history, Greek and Roman epigraphy, onomastics, Roman law, and the geography of the Graeco-Roman world. Salway teaches undergraduate courses on the Roman Empire and the Roman Army, as well as postgraduate courses on Latin Epigraphy and aspects of late antiquity. He is the director of the British Academy Project Volterra on Roman Law and serves as a member of the international team for l'Année épigraphique, particularly responsible for regions such as Asia, Galatia, and Cappadocia. He is also an Area Editor (Geography) for the Oxford Classical Dictionary. With extensive experience in PhD supervision, Salway welcomes students interested in various facets of Roman history, epigraphy, and law. He has completed numerous significant publications and conducts ongoing research that contributes to the understanding of ancient Roman societal structures and practices.
