Biography

Bengt Jacobson graduated with a PhD in machine elements from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, in 1993, focusing on the dynamics of gear shifting in power-shifting transmissions. He continues to research longitudinal vehicle dynamics and dynamic modeling with control over powertrain systems, particularly in hybrid vehicles. He has developed a teaching focus in vehicle dynamics and was appointed Associate Professor in 1998. Between 2001 and 2010, Jacobson served as Technical Expert at Volvo Car Corporation, concentrating on vehicle dynamics control related to active safety, with an emphasis on brakes and steering systems. Currently, he is a Full Professor and leads the Vehicle Dynamics group at Chalmers, focusing research on vehicle motion on the ground plane for both passenger cars and heavy trucks. Additionally, Jacobson has held board positions with the Swedish Vehicular Engineering Association since 2012 and with the Heavy Vehicle Transport Technology board since 2023.
