Bengt Steen has a PhD in chemical engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, which he obtained in 1975. Furthermore, Steen has been active in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to create international standards for LCA and eco-efficiency, specifically regarding the monetary valuation of environmental impacts. In recognition of his outstanding achievements in LCA, he received the SETAC Europe Lifetime Award in 2012.
