Dr. Benjamin Barratt

Biography

Ben Barratt is a Professor of Environmental Exposures and Public Health at Imperial College London. He is Co-Director of the School of Convergence Science - Sustainability and Deputy Director of the Environmental Research Group. Barratt serves as co-chair of the School of Public Health's Research Committee and currently sits on the Health Effects Institute Research Committee. He is also the joint Head of the World Health Organisation's Collaborating Centre for Environmental Risks to Health. Recognised internationally as an environmental exposure scientist, his work focuses on the innovative use of environmental monitoring technology to gain a deeper understanding of air quality and its impact on vulnerable populations. His research operates at the intersection of global health, requiring collaboration across clinical, natural, engineering, and social science disciplines worldwide. The primary aim of his research is to deliver targeted evidence of the impacts of air pollution and other environmental stressors on diverse health outcomes, providing stronger epidemiological and toxicological links. His findings are used to evaluate pollution emissions control interventions and to offer bespoke advice for health protection, especially for sensitive individuals, thereby promoting engagement and behavior change in relation to environmental public health improvement.
