Benjamin L. Bays is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radio-Television-Film at the Moody College of Communication, University of Texas at Austin. A native of Austin, Texas, he is a UT graduate with a notable career in producing a broad range of animation, motion graphics, concept art, and computer-generated models across various media, including television, feature films, and video games. Since 1998, he has created interactive content for platforms such as Gamecube, PS2, XBOX, GBA, GameboyDS, IOS, and PC, specializing in areas like isometric pre-painted backgrounds, full 3D environments, 2.5D platformers, and tile-based destructible environments. With over a decade of experience in the video game industry, he has held roles ranging from Level 1 Artist to Environment Lead Artist on a variety of projects. In 2008, he joined the faculty at the RTF department where he has developed and taught a variety of courses on storytelling in new media, traditional animation, visual effects, and CG modeling, as well as being involved in immersive media production classes focusing on virtual and augmented reality. His research interests encompass Animation, comics, cartoons, video games, visual effects, and digital media.
