Biography

Benjamin Berey, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University with a joint appointment as a Research Health Scientist at the Providence VA Medical Center. He received his Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance from the University of Florida. During his academic career, he completed a predoctoral fellowship at the Southern HIV and Alcohol Research Consortium and postdoctoral fellowships at Brown's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies. His research focuses on understanding the effects of cannabis use on sleep behavior and physiology across diverse populations through experimental and observational methods. He utilizes cutting-edge technology, such as smartphone applications and biosensors, to measure and reduce alcohol use among young adults and individuals living with HIV. As part of his ongoing research at the VA, he directs a program aimed at exploring these significant health issues. He joined the faculty in 2024 and has been engaged in teaching and mentorship throughout his career.
