Benjamin H. Bratton is a sociological, media, and design theorist. He serves as Professor in the Visual Arts Department at the University of California, San Diego, and is the Director of the Center for Design & Geopolitics at the California Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technology. His work addresses intersections of contemporary social and political theory with computational media and infrastructure, as well as architectural and urban design challenges. His current research interests include philosophical problems related to interfaciality, digital urbanism, and media architecture, along with contemporary continental philosophy and aesthetic theory. Additionally, he examines technology transfer protocols and platforms, design research management methodologies, and both classical and contemporary sociological theories. Bratton has lectured widely and authored numerous articles and book chapters across academic and popular publications. He has contributed to Architectural Design and has been a visiting lecturer at numerous prestigious institutions including Columbia, Pratt, Yale, and the Architectural Association in London. Bratton has also been actively involved as a consultant and advisor for both public and private organizations.
