Dr. Benjamin Bridgewater

Biography

Ben Bridgewater is an Honorary Professor at the University of Manchester and the CEO of Health Innovation Manchester. He has a distinguished career as a consultant cardiac surgeon and has contributed significantly to the field of cardiac surgery through his leadership in quality improvement and outcomes research. His academic journey began at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, and led him to undertake a PhD at Brompton Hospital, focusing on experimental studies and mathematical modeling. He has been instrumental in developing methodologies for collecting and analyzing cardiac surgical outcomes data across the UK. His work in this area earned him recognition as one of the top 50 innovators in health in the UK by the HSJ in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, he has served as Director of Outcomes Publication at the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership, overseeing the publication of clinical outcomes data for multiple surgical specialties. Bridgewater also has experience in strategic roles within the healthcare sector, having worked with CSC (now DXC.technology) to improve patient health outcomes using data-driven approaches. His interests extend to the regulatory use of clinical outcomes data and promoting medical professionalism. He has supervised medical students and taught widely on the importance of quality improvement in healthcare delivery.
