Biography

Benjamin Frommer is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of History at Northwestern University. He obtained his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1999. His research primarily focuses on Central European History, with significant contributions to the understanding of Jewish experiences during the Holocaust, including intermarriage and the dynamics of Nazi occupation in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Frommer's current research examines wartime destruction impacts on integrated Jewish communities, evidenced in his forthcoming book 'Ghetto Walls: Holocaust in the Nazi Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.' He has received various honors for his teaching, including the Weinberg College Distinguished Teaching Award in 2007, and he held the Wayne V. Jones Research Professorship from 2010 to 2012. Moreover, Frommer has served as the inaugural Director of the Holocaust Educational Foundation at Northwestern University, participating actively in scholarly discourse on Jewish studies and Eastern European history.
