Benjamin Howell, MD, MPH, MHS grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and earned his undergraduate degree at Columbia University. He obtained his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and a Master of Public Health from the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. Dr. Howell completed his residency and served as chief resident in Internal Medicine-Primary Care at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He continued at Yale to complete a health services research post-doctoral fellowship as part of the National Clinician Scholars Program. Dr. Howell is now on the faculty at the Section of General Internal Medicine and the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine at the SEICHE Center for Health Justice. His research focuses on addressing social and structural determinants of health to improve outcomes for individuals, families, and communities affected by mass incarceration and increasing access to evidence-based treatments for addiction.
