Biography

Benjamin Lipp is an Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He obtained his doctorate in Science and Technology Studies (STS) from the Technical University of Munich in 2019. Following his doctorate, he joined DTU in 2023 as a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow, having previously worked at Cornell University and the University of Hamburg. His research focuses on the sociomaterial interactions between humans and machines in the healthcare domain, particularly regarding assistive care robots. His dissertation explored how the field of care is reshaped by policy imperatives while his subsequent H2020 funded research project, SCALINGS, examined how health professionals and older adults can co-create robots to enhance health and well-being. As a Marie Curie fellow, he investigated the use of digital neuro-technology for chronic pain management in the United States, emphasizing users' long-term experiences. Benjamin has shared his research findings through various invited talks, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Social Studies of Science and Science, Technology, & Human Values. He has also been actively involved in public engagement initiatives related to digital health technology, including events and workshops that promote responsible interfacing between humans and machines, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
