Biography

Benjamin Tan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary, where he also serves as the Acting Associate Head of Graduate Studies. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 2019, following his completion of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree in the same field. His research focuses on hardware security, digital system development, and the implications of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models in enhancing cybersecurity. Dr. Tan has collaborated with institutions such as Intel and has received funding from various organizations including NSERC and DARPA. Prior to joining UCalgary, he was a Postdoctoral Associate at New York University, where he contributed to the Center for Cybersecurity. Dr. Tan is a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and holds senior membership in IEEE and ACM.
