Biography

Dr. Benjamin Wolozin has extensive research experience in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, focusing on Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. His research examines the molecular and cellular aspects of these diseases, with significant expertise in molecular neuropathology. His work utilizes studies of human tissues and various transgenic models, including mice, primary neurons, and cell lines. The Wolozin Lab increasingly focuses on the development and application of human 3D iPS-Neuron/Astrocyte assembloids, which rapidly develop Alzheimer pathology. The laboratory has established methods to analyze pathological RNA granules and stress granules that accumulate in brain diseases. His research has demonstrated the critical role of RNA binding proteins in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease, revealing that reducing RNA binding proteins such as TIA1 and HNRNPA2B1 blocks the accumulation of this type of pathology in neurons. Additionally, Dr. Wolozin's laboratory has been studying the roles of noncoding RNAs in collaboration with Dr. Xiaoling Zhang, identifying disease-linked changes in circRNA levels and their functional attributes. His lab is characterized by its diversity, including members from various backgrounds and countries.
