Bennett Allen is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Population Health at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, where he leads the NYU Systems Policy Outcomes Lab (SPOTLIGHT). His research evaluates programs and policies related to substance use, mental health, and violence prevention using epidemiological machine learning methods. Additionally, he explores empirical normative bioethics, focusing on the conceptual foundations and practical consequences of public health policy. Current projects include longitudinal evaluations of New York City overdose prevention centers and shelter-based overdose prevention initiatives for individuals experiencing homelessness in New York City, as well as evaluations of alternative responses to community violence interventions across the United States. Dr. Allen is a Principal Investigator on research projects supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the City of New York, the Commonwealth Fund, and the Greenwall Foundation. He obtained his PhD in Epidemiology from the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and an MPA in Public Policy from the NYU Wagner School of Public Service. Before joining NYU, he worked in substance use and mental health policy for the New York City government.
