Biography

Benoit Forget, KEPCO Professor and Department Head at MIT's Nuclear Science and Engineering, joined the faculty in 2008. He leads the Computational Reactor Physics Group (CRPG), which is renowned for developing open-source codes such as OpenMC and OpenMOC that enhance high-fidelity reactor simulations on advanced computing platforms. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in reactor physics and engineering, and radiation transport. Additionally, he co-organizes industry-focused short courses on reactor safety. Before joining MIT, he contributed to reactor methods development and fuel cycle analysis at Idaho National Laboratory. Prof. Forget earned his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2006, following a Master of Engineering in Energy Engineering in 2003 and a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering in 2001 from École Polytechnique de Montréal. He is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society and chaired the Reactor Physics Division from 2011 to 2012, receiving the ANS John Landis Young Member Engineering Achievement Award in 2013. His research focuses on Monte Carlo transport methods, uncertainty quantification in nuclear data, and coupling reactor physics codes with thermal-hydraulics codes for a more comprehensive analysis of nuclear systems.
