Dr. Benoît Gomis

Biography

Benoît Gomis is a researcher and lecturer focused on illicit trade, particularly in the context of legal and illegal drugs and terrorism. He serves as a Research Consultant for the Tobacco Control Research Group at the University of Bath, where he researches the illicit tobacco trade and the tobacco industry's practices. At the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, University of Toronto, he teaches graduate courses including 'Illicit Trade Drugs', 'The Tobacco Industry Playbook', and 'Researching Terrorism', and supervises Capstone Seminar projects related to global security. In his independent capacity, Benoît collaborates with various organizations, governments, think tanks, NGOs, and universities. He is part of the Global Initiative on Transnational Organized Crime's Network of Experts for North America and serves as an Associate Fellow at the International Security Programme at Chatham House. Benoît is also a frequent contributor to publications such as Jane's Intelligence Review and World Politics Review, and has authored 130 papers, reports, briefings, and a book. He received his education from Sciences Po Aix-en-Provence, Loyola University Chicago, and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
