Biography

Benoit Hastoy is a researcher in the Radcliffe Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford. His research primarily focuses on the genetic variants associated with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) risk and their effects on the secretory capacity of pancreatic beta-cells. He leads a small research team and collaborates extensively with the Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Precision Medicine (CAIPM) to develop small molecules that potentially restore beta-cell function. Through his work, Hastoy aims to understand the regulatory mechanisms that influence T2D risk, using both human beta-cell lines and primary islets. He began his academic journey as a PhD student in Bordeaux in 2008, where he focused on molecular mechanisms of insulin exocytosis. After a postdoctoral position in Oxford, he has continually expanded his skills in electrophysiology and live cell imaging, contributing to various high-profile research projects related to diabetes and metabolic physiology.
