Bernard Debarbieux is a full professor in political and cultural geography as well as land use planning. He is primarily associated with the Department of Geography and Environment and the Institute of Environmental Sciences, particularly through the Environmental Governance and Territorial Development Institute/Workshop (P/IGEDT). His research combines a theoretical approach to social imaginations of space and an empirical analysis of land development practices, especially in mountainous regions and heritage management within international organizations. His current projects focus on the current social imaginations of mountains and the history and uses of the concept of 'world heritage' in international organizations. He directs the Master's program in Innovation, Human Development Sustainability (IHDS).
