Dr. Bernard Freamon

Biography

Bernard K. Freamon is an adjunct professor at New York University School of Law and a professor emeritus of law at Seton Hall Law School. Notably, he is a prominent scholar in Islamic law jurisprudence and has taught a variety of courses including Evidence, Professional Responsibility, and Islamic Law. His academic journey includes visiting faculty positions at institutions such as the University of Nairobi and Washington and Lee University. Professor Freamon has made significant contributions to the field, particularly with his focus on civil rights and social justice, having participated in litigation at various court levels. He has authored numerous articles on Islamic law and has recently published the book "Possessed Right Hand: Problem Slavery in Islamic Law and Muslim Cultures". His recent research involves addressing modern challenges of slavery and human trafficking in Muslim communities.
