Biography

In 2007, Bernard Ries received his PhD in mathematics from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (CH). He served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Columbia University (US) in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from 2008 to 2009. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Warwick (UK) in the Center for Discrete Mathematics and its Applications (DIMAP) at the Warwick Business School from 2009 to 2010. Following this, he became an Associate Professor at Université Paris Dauphine (F) in the Computer Science Mathematics Department from September 2010 to July 2015. Currently, he is a Professor at the University of Fribourg (CH), leading the Decision Support & Operations Research Group alongside Marino Widmer in the Department of Informatics. In 2022, he joined the Smart Living Lab project team. His primary research interests encompass Structural Algorithmic Graph Theory, Combinatorial Optimization, Computational Complexity, and Mathematical Modeling. He has supervised multiple PhD students and participated in various doctoral committees across several universities.
