Bernard Ries received his PhD in Mathematics from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 2007. Following his doctorate, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Columbia University in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from 2008 to 2009. He served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Warwick at the Center for Discrete Mathematics Applications from 2009 to 2010. Currently, he is a Professor at the University of Fribourg, leading the Decision Support & Operations Research Group within the Department of Informatics. In 2022, he joined the Smart Living Lab project as a team member. His main research interests include International Relations, Digitalization, Interdisciplinarity, Combinatorial Optimization, Structural Algorithmic Graph Theory, Mathematical Modeling, and Computational Complexity.
