Biography

Bernd Gludovatz is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Australia. He holds a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Leoben, Austria. After completing his doctoral studies in 2010 under the supervision of Prof. Reinhard Pippan, Dr. Gludovatz worked as a post-doctoral fellow with Prof. Robert O. Ritchie at the Materials Sciences Division of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States. He joined UNSW as a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering in 2017. His research interests include the mechanical behavior of structural materials, particularly the mechanisms underlying deformation, fracture, and fatigue of advanced metallic alloys, as well as nature-inspired composites and biological materials. Additionally, he is focused on the analysis of component failures in service and the development of energy-efficient, lightweight structural components for applications in aerospace, wind energy systems, and telecommunications.
