Biography

Bernd Schroers is a prominent mathematician specializing in mathematical physics, particularly in the areas of topological solitons and gauge theory quantum gravity. He was born in Germany and completed his secondary education at the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales. He obtained his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 1993. Following his doctoral studies, Schroers held postdoctoral positions at Durham University and the University of Amsterdam. He served as an EPSRC advanced research fellow at the University of Edinburgh before joining Heriot-Watt University in 2000, where he initially worked as a lecturer. In 2014, he became the Head of the Department of Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University, a position he held until 2017. In August 2022, he was appointed Head of the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, where he continues to contribute to the field of mathematical physics. His research interests are well-documented and reflect his expertise in complex areas of theoretical mathematics.
