Biography

Bernhard Jahn is a Professor of German Literature of the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Period at the University of Hamburg. His academic journey began with studies in medieval German studies, modern German literature, theoretical linguistics, musicology, and Italian studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In 1992, he earned his doctoral degree with a dissertation on spatial concepts of the Early Modern Period. Jahn was awarded a postdoctoral grant at Philipps University of Marburg, focusing on politeness and ceremonial in the aesthetic constitution of baroque opera. He has held various positions at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, culminating in his habilitation in 2002. His research interests include German literature from the 15th century, theatre of the Early Modern Period, media history, and the interaction of the arts. He has published numerous monographs and edited collective volumes on various subjects related to German literature and theatre, particularly focusing on the relationship between literature and music. He has also been an editor for several journals and book series in German studies.
