Biography

Professor Bernhard Meyer, born in 1962, is a prominent figure in the field of neurosurgery at the Technical University of Munich. He specializes in vascular, oncological, and spinal neurosurgery. His educational journey began with medical studies at the Universities of Padua in Italy and Erlangen-Nürnberg. He also spent time abroad at Northwestern University in Chicago and the State University of New York in Brooklyn, after which he completed his medical studies and earned a PhD. at the Institute of Human Genetics, University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, in 1989. Professor Meyer gained further training as a neurosurgeon in Tübingen, Duisburg, and Bonn, including an international stint in Zurich, Switzerland, and Phoenix, Arizona, USA. He acquired his German medical board certification in neurosurgery in 1995 and became a senior physician at the Neurosurgical University Clinic Bonn, achieving habilitation in 1999. His professorship in neurosurgery commenced in 2001, and over the years, he has held significant leadership positions, including President of the German Society of Spine Surgery in 2019, and served on various committees in prominent neurosurgical associations. With a keen focus on improving patient outcomes in neurosurgery, Professor Meyer has authored numerous influential publications in his research fields.
