Biography

Professor Bernhard U. Seeber investigates sound processing by leveraging insights into how the human ear functions to improve hearing aids and audio systems. His current research focuses on signal processing for hearing aids and cochlear implants, binaural psychoacoustics, virtual acoustical reality, and acoustic nondestructive testing. His work is characterized by a combination of experimental and theoretical approaches, utilizing a wide range of methods in collaboration with industry researchers. Professor Seeber obtained his doctoral degree in 2003 in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He then joined the University of California at Berkeley in 2003 to develop new methods for investigating directional hearing. From 2007 to 2012, he led a research group at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research in Nottingham, UK, focusing on how sounds can be distinguished in mixed background noise. In 2011, he initiated the Cochlea Implant Group at the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre (UK) and joined TUM as a professor in 2012.
