Dr. Bernt Wilhelmsson

Biography

Bernt Wilhelmsson is an accomplished pianist whose journey began at the age of seven. He made his debut as a soloist with Beethoven's 'Emperor Concerto' in 1997 with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Wilhelmsson has performed extensively, engaging in piano recitals and chamber music concerts, and has been a soloist in piano concerts featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Schumann, Gershwin, Stenhammar, and Stravinsky. His concert career has taken him across Scotland, Iceland, Norway, the Baltic States, France, Czechia, the USA, Argentina, and Canada, with several performances broadcasted on Swedish Radio P2. Since 2008, he has held the position of Associate Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the University of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, where he is also frequently heard at the Gothenburg Opera as an orchestral pianist. Wilhelmsson has recorded numerous CDs that explore Swedish Piano Romanticism and works by composers such as Emil Sjögren and Debussy. He holds a soloist diploma from the Academy of Music and Drama, along with a degree in piano teaching from the Ingesund Academy of Music. He has studied under renowned instructors including Irina Zaritskaya in London and Noel Flores in Vienna. As a pedagogue, Wilhelmsson emphasizes a tailored approach to teaching, focusing on each student's individual needs to cultivate their artistic perspectives and develop their self-esteem as soloists and chamber musicians.
