Biography

Bert Bras has been a professor at the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology since September 1992. He served as the Director of Georgia Tech's Institute for Sustainable Technology Development from 2001 to 2004 and was named Brook Byers Professor of Sustainability in 2014. In 2016, he became Associate Chair for Administration and briefly served as Interim School Chair in 2018. He holds a PhD in Operations Research from the University of Houston and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Twente in the Netherlands. His research focuses on sustainable design manufacturing, including environmentally conscious design, recycling, robust design, and life-cycle analyses applications in energy mobility systems. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation and several major automotive companies. His notable projects include the Ford Motor Company MyEnergi Lifestyle C-Max Solar Energi concept car, which was featured at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. He has received multiple awards, including the Georgia Institute of Technology Outstanding Interdisciplinary Activities Award in 2007.
