Biography

Bert Roest (Ph.D. University of Groningen, 1996) teaches medieval history at Radboud University Nijmegen. His research focuses on intellectual and institutional history, particularly concerning religious orders during the late medieval and early modern periods. He works on university history, late medieval preaching, and religious indoctrination genres. In January 2015, he completed activities related to the NWO Research Project 'Religious Orders and Religious Identity Formation.' He is currently collaborating with several international scholars on a project focusing on the late medieval Observant movement, investigating demonological writings from the late medieval to early modern period, and exploring Franciscan discourses regarding lay women from the 13th to the 18th century. Additionally, Bert maintains the Franciscan Author Website in collaboration with Maarten van der Heijden.
