Biography

Professor Bert Sluys received his PhD from Delft University of Technology in 1992. He worked as a Research Fellow at the Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) at Delft University of Technology from 1992 to 1997. During this time, he held post-doctoral researcher positions at Brown University in Providence, USA (1993), the University of Western Australia in Perth, Australia (1996), and the University of Glasgow in the UK (1996). In 1997, he was a Visiting Professor at the Laboratoire de Mecanique et Technologie at ENS de Cachan, France, and at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon (INSA), France, in 2001. In 1999, he became the head of the Computational Mechanics group at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of Delft University of Technology. He was promoted to Full Professor in 2005, where he leads the Department of Materials, Mechanics, Management Design (3MD). His research interests include Computational Mechanics, materials, modeling failure processes, multi-scale methods, and computational modeling of high-performance materials.
