Dr. Bert Van Wee

Biography

Bert van Wee is a professor of Transport Policy at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands, focusing on long-term developments in transport, particularly in the areas of land-use transport interaction, evaluation of large infrastructure projects, environmental impacts, safety, and policy analyses involving ethics. His expertise covers transport policy relevance, assessing environmental effects, and the ethical dimensions of transport systems amidst technological innovations. He completed his undergraduate studies in Geography at Utrecht University in 1983 and earned his Doctorate in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Amsterdam in 1997. Prior to his academic career, he worked with AGV, a private consulting company, between 1983 and 1990, and was employed at RIVM in the Netherlands from 1990 to 2003. He held a professorship in Transport, Environment, and Land Use at Utrecht University from 1999 to 2003 and has been an influential voice in international networks and editorial boards related to transport research. Notably, in 2014, he was awarded the Edward L. Ullman Award by the Association of American Geographers for his significant contributions to Transport Geography, and in 2022, he received TU Delft's Professor Excellence Award, recognizing his exceptional impact on research and education in the field. He is acknowledged as a 'highly cited researcher' by Clarivate for his influence in logistics and transportation research.
