Bertram Ludäscher is a leading figure in data knowledge management, focusing on modeling, design, and optimization of scientific workflows, as well as provenance, data integration, and knowledge representation. He co-led the open-source Kepler scientific workflow system project and is a key member of the DataONE Working Group on Provenance for Scientific Workflows. Prior to his time at Illinois, he served as an associate research scientist at the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UC San Diego, leading the Knowledge-Based Information Systems Lab. He received his Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1992 and completed his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Freiburg in 1998.
