Biography

Dr. Bertrand Routy is an Assistant Professor of Hematology-Oncology and the scientific director of the immunotherapy and microbiome laboratory at the Research Centre of the Montreal University Hospital Centre. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Montreal in 2009 and completed his internal medicine training at McGill University. He furthered his research training at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, and obtained a PhD in immuno-oncology from Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus in Paris under the supervision of Professor Laurence Zitvogel in 2017. Dr. Routy's research focuses on understanding the deleterious effects of antibiotics on patients receiving immune checkpoint blockers (ICBs) and establishing the major impact of gut microbiota composition on the efficacy of ICBs in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). He has published several significant articles in prominent journals such as Science, Immunity, Cell, and Annals of Oncology, concentrating on manipulating the gut microbiome in conjunction with immunotherapy to develop new therapies and biomarkers in thoracic oncology.
