Dr. Bertrand Taithe

Biography

Bertrand Taithe is a Professor of Cultural History at the University of Manchester, specializing in humanitarian history and the historical practices associated with humanitarian aid. He obtained his PhD from the University of Montpellier and has been an integral part of the Manchester academic community since 2000. Taithe is also a founding member of the Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute, which aims to merge academic research with the practical needs of humanitarian workers and medical practitioners. His past editorial roles include work with the European Review of History and Manchester University Press, actively contributing to discussions on humanitarianism and war. His research interests are diverse yet interconnected, including the history of medicine, French colonial history, and the broader implications of humanitarian practices in modern conflict. Taithe has supervised numerous doctoral students and is well-known for his involvement in interdisciplinary projects, such as the Arcades Project focusing on Walter Benjamin's works.
