Dr. Bessma Momani

Biography

Bessma Momani is a Full Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo and has served as the Associate Vice-President, International. She specializes in International Financial Institutions, Middle East Politics, and International Affairs. Momani has held various prominent positions including a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation. She has authored and co-authored over fourteen books and published around 90 peer-reviewed academic articles that cover topics such as international organizations, political economy, gender diversity, and digital transformations. Bessma has collaborated on research projects funded by Canada's Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and has been involved in initiatives that explore the relations between diversity and economic prosperity. Additionally, she frequently shares her insights as a media analyst and has written for major publications like The Globe and Mail, The New York Times, and The Economist. Her recent works include contributions to the Oxford Handbook of the International Monetary Fund and other academic texts on gender in the Canadian Academy and Middle Power dynamics in the Middle East.
