Beth graduated from the University of Sheffield with a first-class degree in Medical Microbiology and was awarded a PhD in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Nottingham. In 2015, she joined the Proteus project at the Translational Healthcare Technologies group at the University of Edinburgh, where she led the development of infection models and validation of optical SmartProbes for imaging devices aimed at clinical translation in pulmonology. She is currently focused on exploring technologies adapted for point-of-care diagnosis of infections, taking into account the technological and user health system requirements of low-resource settings. In 2019, Beth completed an MSc in Global Health Policy at the University of Edinburgh, where she built extensive networks across healthcare settings in India to co-design and evaluate technologies, particularly in the field of microbial keratitis. In 2021, she was awarded the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to develop pathways for diagnosing and treating microbial keratitis, partnering with the Aravind Eye Care System.
