Dr. Beth Schrope

Biography

Beth Schrope is a Professor of Clinical Surgery at Columbia University, focusing on the Department of Surgery. She graduated with an M.D. from Temple University in 1996 and holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University, completed in 1992. Schrope began her medical career as a clinical instructor while completing her residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. She has authored numerous publications in diverse fields, including bariatric surgery, medical ultrasound, and gastrointestinal surgery, and she served as the sole editor of the textbook 'Surgical Interventional Ultrasound.' Schrope's research interests are centered on the novel applications of autologous pancreatic islet cell transplantation, the treatment of pancreatic cysts, and pancreatitis, utilizing minimally invasive techniques to address both benign and malignant conditions of the stomach. Her professional affiliations include the American College of Surgeons and the American HepatoPancreaticoBiliary Association. Schrope is also involved as the Regional Medical Director for the Southern New York Chapter of the National Pancreas Foundation, indicating her commitment to advancing pancreatic health care. She has earned various accolades throughout her career, such as recognition in the 'Guide to America’s Top Surgeons' and teaching awards from her department.
