Biography

Bettina Willie earned her doctoral degree in Bioengineering from the University of Utah and completed postdoctoral training at the Institute for Trauma Surgery and Biomechanics, University of Ulm in Germany and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. From 2008 to 2015, she led a research group at the Julius Wolff Institute at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany. She became an Associate Professor in 2015 and a Full Professor in 2022 at the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University. In mid-2022, she joined the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences as a Tenured Full Professor. Her research program employs both computational and experimental approaches, utilizing advanced imaging technologies to study the causes, detection, and treatment of skeletal fragility and craniofacial abnormalities, particularly in rare diseases. Her key research interests include the mechanisms of bone adaptation and regeneration in response to mechanical stimuli, the role of osteoblastic cells in mechanosensation, and the impact of circadian rhythms on bone remodeling. Her work encompasses several themes focusing on improving treatment strategies and understanding the underlying biological processes associated with skeletal health and aging.
