Biography

Beverley Hood is a Reader in Technological Embodiment and Creative Practice at Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh. Her research practice interrogates the impact of technology on human experiences and focuses on creation through practice-based projects and writing. With a longstanding interest in live performance that utilizes technological mediums, she engages in interdisciplinary collaborations, having developed projects involving a myriad of practitioners, including medical researchers, scientists, writers, technologists, dancers, actors, and composers. Currently, Beverley serves as a Co-Investigator for the UKRI BRAID (Bridging Responsible AI Divides) programme, a six-year national research initiative led by the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with the Ada Lovelace Institute and the BBC. Previously, she held roles as Director of Research in Design and Unit Assessment REF Coordinator at ECA. Her teaching responsibilities include supervision of PhD students in Design. Beverley is also a member of various research groups within the University of Edinburgh, including RAFT, Experiential AI, and the Performance Research Network.
