Biography

Beverley Johnston, O.C., is one of Canada’s leading percussionists, known for her commitment to performance and support of Canadian composers. Over the years, she has commissioned and performed works by notable Canadian composers, making them staples in the standard percussion repertory globally. In recognition of her exemplary contributions, she was awarded the distinction of Canadian Music Centre Ambassador and appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. Johnston has established a reputation beyond her native Canada, performing as a soloist and chamber musician, and she has recorded seven solo albums. Her performances span various international festivals across the United States, Europe, and Asia, including the Ivan Bilic Marimba Week in Croatia and the International Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Academy. She has been invited as a faculty member at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Johnston's training includes studying under Russell Hartenberger and she has been teaching percussion since 1996. As a Marimba Paiste Artist, she continues to actively contribute to the percussion community.
