Dr. Beverly Gordon

Biography

Beverly Gordon is a Professor Emerita in the School of Human Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her interdisciplinary scholarly research focuses on the meanings of objects in people's lives, particularly in relation to women's domestic environments. Gordon takes a global approach, examining intercultural relationships and the theoretical aspects of material culture, including the meanings of souvenirs and gendered approaches to proxemic distance. She is also a practicing artist, creating art that consists of collage and assemblage, incorporating natural detritus such as bones, barks, and shells.
