Biography

Bharat Ramratnam is the Warren Alpert Foundation Professor of Medicine at Brown University, where he completed his undergraduate medical education and pursued his residency and chief residency. He has also undergone postdoctoral training at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, Rockefeller University. He is the head of the Laboratory of Retrovirology within the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Alpert Medical School. He employs genetic and proteomic techniques to identify potential host factors that may serve as novel targets for pharmacotherapy. Ramratnam has directed significant funded research projects examining the role of reproductive hormones in HIV-1 acquisition and exploring interactions between alcohol use and HIV.
