Biography

Bhuvaneish T Selvaraj is an engineering graduate from Anna University, India, who began his scientific research career with a Ph.D. in neurobiology from the University of Wuerzburg, Germany. In 2014, he moved to the University of Edinburgh to undertake post-doctoral research focused on human stem cell disease modeling for neurodegenerative diseases. In 2020, he was awarded a Chancellor’s fellowship at the University of Edinburgh. His research revolves around understanding the molecular pathomechanisms leading to the selective vulnerability of motor neurons observed in Motor Neuron Disease (MND) and related conditions. The degenerative nature of these diseases presents significant health challenges globally, particularly with an ageing population. His work employs cutting-edge technologies, including human stem cells, 3D organoid models, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and human post-mortem studies, aiming to develop novel neuroprotective strategies. Bhuvaneish collaborates with leading researchers and is engaged with several affiliated research centers dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
