Dr. Bianca Planas García

Biography

Bianca Planas García is a Clinical Associate at Yale School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry, specializing in delivering trauma-informed services and evidence-based care to individuals with substance use disorders and comorbidities. She is currently a fellow in the Psychology section where her primary placement is at the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit and her secondary placement at the Consultation Center. Bianca is a graduate student in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at Albizu University in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her research focuses on exploring potential transdiagnostic factors, specifically the role of self-conscious emotions like shame and stigma in influencing treatment engagement, adherence, and outcomes. Her work predominantly employs both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to identify psychological mechanisms behind substance use disorders. Furthermore, she aims to develop interventions to target shame and stigma to improve treatment outcomes for individuals struggling with substance use disorders.
