Born and raised in Calcutta, I went to a residential school in Ooty before graduating with a BA Honours in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. I obtained a postgraduate degree in International Relations from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, followed by an MSc in Gender Development and a PhD in History from the United Kingdom, where I worked in York, Cambridge, and Manchester. I have taught courses in History and Politics at various educational institutions while being a graduate student and during my time working with the British Cabinet Office in London. I am a recipient of several bursaries and awards in India and the United Kingdom, including the President's Medal for Outstanding Performance in Humanities (India), a Foreign Commonwealth Office Scholarship, a British Academy grant, and the Charles Wallace India Trust award. I moved to Canada in the summer of 2012 to take my current position at SFU's Department of History. Currently, I am working on a book-length study titled 'Contesting Respectability: Sexuality, Corporeality and Popular Culture in Colonial Bengal'.
